SCC (squamous cell carcinoma)
Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a common type of skin cancer that develops when the squamous cells, which make up the outer layer of the skin, grow abnormally and uncontrollably. It often results from long-term exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun or tanning beds. SCC typically appears as a firm, reddish bump, a sore that doesn’t heal, or a scaly, crusted growth. If detected early, it’s usually treatable with removal techniques like surgery or radiation. Without treatment, it can grow larger and potentially spread to other parts of the body, so early diagnosis is important.
