Scarring tissue
Scar tissue is the body's natural way of repairing damage in the skin or other tissues after an injury. When tissue is injured, the body produces collagen, a protein that helps rebuild the damaged area. This new tissue is often tougher and less flexible than the original, forming a scar. Scar tissue can appear as a raised or discolored area and may sometimes affect movement if it forms over joints or organs. While scars are a normal part of healing, they reflect the body's effort to protect and restore the injured area.
