Scarlet Fever
Scarlet fever is an infection caused by the same bacteria that lead to strep throat, specifically Streptococcus pyogenes. It primarily affects children and is characterized by a bright red rash, high fever, sore throat, and a characteristic "strawberry" tongue. The rash typically feels rough and can cover much of the body. Although scarlet fever was once considered serious, it is generally treatable with antibiotics, which help reduce symptoms and prevent complications. Prompt medical attention is important for effective management and to prevent the infection from spreading. Vaccines are not available, so awareness and hygiene are crucial for prevention.
