Scaphoid fracture

A scaphoid fracture is a break in one of the small bones in the wrist called the scaphoid, which connects the hand to the forearm. It often occurs after a fall onto an outstretched hand. Because the blood supply to this bone is limited, a fracture may not heal quickly or properly, risking long-term problems like stiffness or arthritis if untreated. Symptoms typically include wrist pain, swelling, and tenderness, especially near the thumb base. Diagnosis is confirmed with X-rays, and treatment usually involves immobilizing the wrist in a cast or sometimes surgery to ensure proper healing.
