SC/ST Atrocities Act
The SC/ST Atrocities Act, formally known as the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, aims to prevent discrimination and violence against historically marginalized communities in India. It provides legal protection and strict penalties for acts of prejudice, atrocities, or harassment committed against SC and ST individuals, including assault, insult, intimidation, and economic exploitation. The Act also establishes special courts to expedite justice. Its goal is to promote equality, dignity, and safety for marginalized groups, ensuring they are protected from discrimination and violence rooted in social bias.
