Saz (musical instrument)

The saz is a traditional stringed instrument originating from Turkey and the Middle East, similar in appearance to a long-necked lute. It typically has a pear-shaped wooden body, a long fretted neck, and multiple strings—usually between seven and nine—that are plucked with a pick or fingers. The saz produces a warm, resonant sound and is used to accompany singing or storytelling in musical and cultural traditions. Its rich tone and expressive qualities make it a central instrument in folk, classical, and contemporary Middle Eastern music.
