Sawm
Sawm is the Islamic act of fasting, observed during the month of Ramadan. Muslims abstain from food, drink, and other physical needs from dawn until sunset, aiming to develop self-discipline, increase spiritual awareness, and foster compassion for those in need. It also serves as a time for reflection, prayer, and community. Sawm is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, emphasizing the importance of self-control and devotion to God. The fast is broken at sunset with a meal called iftar, and the practice is observed worldwide by Muslims during Ramadan.
