Saskatchewan Carbon Capture and Storage Initiative

The Saskatchewan Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Initiative is a project aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions from industrial sources, particularly oil and gas facilities. It captures carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions before they enter the atmosphere and permanently stores them underground deep within geological formations. This technology helps balance economic activity with environmental responsibility by lowering carbon footprints, supporting climate change mitigation, and allowing the province to continue its energy and resource development more sustainably. The initiative represents a key step toward cleaner energy practices while leveraging Saskatchewan’s existing industrial infrastructure.
