Sargent Shriver

Sargent Shriver was an American politician, social reformer, and the first director of the Peace Corps, an organization that sends volunteers abroad to promote peace and friendship. He was born in 1915 and served under President John F. Kennedy and President Lyndon B. Johnson. Shriver also played a key role in launching the War on Poverty, creating programs like Head Start, which supports early childhood education. A member of the prominent Shriver family, he was married to Eunice Kennedy, sister of JFK. Shriver's work focused on social justice and improving the lives of disadvantaged individuals. He passed away in 2011.
