Sarcoidosis and Cancer

Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease that causes clumps of cells, called granulomas, to form in various organs, particularly the lungs and lymph nodes. Its exact cause is unknown, but it can affect anyone and sometimes resolves on its own. Cancer, in contrast, involves the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells that can invade and damage surrounding tissues. While sarcoidosis is not cancer, there may be concerns about the relationship between the two, as some research suggests people with sarcoidosis might have a slightly altered risk of developing certain cancers. Nonetheless, they are distinct conditions with different implications for health.
