Santo Fortunato

Santo Fortunato is a fictional character from Edgar Allan Poe’s short story "The Cask of Amontillado." He is a charismatic and well-to-do wine connoisseur who becomes the target of a meticulous and vengeful plan by the narrator, Montresor. The story unfolds as Montresor lures Santo Fortunato into catacombs beneath his home under the pretense of tasting rare wine, but ultimately traps and imprisons him there. The character's name, meaning "Saint Fortune" in Italian, contrasts with the dark, sinister events that unfold, highlighting themes of deception, pride, and retribution.
