Sanfona (accordion)
The sanfona, or accordion, is a portable musical instrument with a rectangular body that produces sound via folded bellows and a series of metal reeds. When the player pushes or pulls the bellows, air flows over these reeds, causing them to vibrate and generate musical notes. Buttons on one or both sides activate different reeds or chord combinations, allowing melody and harmony to be played simultaneously. The sanfona’s expressive control over volume and dynamics makes it a versatile instrument, commonly used in various musical genres, especially in folk, traditional, and popular music across different regions.
