Sandinistas

The Sandinistas were members of the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN), a socialist political group in Nicaragua. They overthrew the country's authoritarian government in 1979, aiming to create a more equitable society through land reforms, education, and healthcare. Their government faced opposition from U.S.-supported Contra rebels, leading to a prolonged conflict during the 1980s. The Sandinistas promoted social justice and nationalism but also faced criticism for authoritarian tendencies. After losing elections in the late 1980s, they returned to power in the 2000s, continuing their socialist policies in Nicaragua.
