SAN protocols
SAN protocols are rules and standards that enable different storage devices and computers to communicate efficiently over a Storage Area Network (SAN). They ensure data is transferred reliably, securely, and quickly between servers and storage hardware. Common SAN protocols include Fibre Channel (FC), which offers high-speed connections suitable for demanding applications, iSCSI, which runs over standard Ethernet networks for cost-effective connectivity, and FCoE, combining Fibre Channel and Ethernet technologies. These protocols coordinate how data moves within the SAN, helping organizations manage large amounts of information with high performance and minimal errors.
