samurai armor

Samurai armor, known as "yoroi" or "dō," was designed for protection and mobility, crafted from overlapping plates of metal, leather, and lacquer to resist weapons. It featured a helmet (kabuto) with a face mask (mempo), and armor-laden sleeves and skirts. The construction allowed flexibility and ventilation, essential for combat agility. Decorative elements often signified rank and clan affiliation. Over time, armor evolved from heavy, bulky styles to lighter, more streamlined versions, balancing defense with movement, reflecting both martial needs and aesthetic craftsmanship.
