Sample Rate

Sample rate refers to how often a digital audio system captures snapshots of sound per second, measured in Hertz (Hz). For example, a sample rate of 44,100 Hz means the system records 44,100 samples every second. Higher sample rates can more accurately reproduce the original sound, especially for high-frequency sounds, resulting in better audio quality. However, increased sample rates also produce larger files and require more processing power. Common sample rates include 44.1 kHz for music and 48 kHz for video. It's a key factor in balancing sound fidelity and file size in digital audio recording and playback.
