Sampeah

Sampeah is a traditional Cambodian gesture of greeting, respect, and gratitude. It involves placing your palms together in front of your chest, fingers pointing upward, and slightly bowing your head. The height at which you bring your hands and the depth of your bow vary depending on the social context and the person's status—more respectful gestures are performed for elders and monks. Sampeah functions similarly to a bow or handshake in other cultures, serving as a polite way to acknowledge others, show deference, or express thankfulness. It reflects Cambodia’s cultural values of respect and humility.
