Sami Parliaments
The Sami Parliaments are representative bodies established to give the Sami people, an indigenous community in Northern Europe, a formal platform to promote their interests and culture. Each Sami Parliament operates within its respective country—Norway, Sweden, Finland, or Russia—and works to influence policies affecting the Sami, such as language rights, land use, and cultural preservation. These parliaments facilitate dialogue between Sami communities and national governments, supporting self-determination and safeguarding Sami identity. They are not legislatures in the traditional sense but serve as advisory bodies to ensure Sami perspectives are considered in decision-making processes.
