Sami Languages
Sami languages are a group of related indigenous languages spoken by the Sami people in the northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia's Kola Peninsula. They belong to the Uralic language family, which also includes Finnish and Estonian. These languages have distinct dialects, some of which are mutually unintelligible, and are characterized by unique sounds and grammar. Despite historical challenges and declining speakers, efforts are underway to preserve and revitalize Sami languages through education and cultural initiatives, reflecting their importance for Sami identity and heritage.
