Sam Sharpe
Sam Sharpe was a Jamaican enslaved man who became a leader in the fight against slavery. In 1831, he organized a large, peaceful protest by enslaved people demanding freedom and better treatment. His efforts helped spark the Baptist War, one of the largest slave rebellions in the Caribbean. Although he was executed for his role, his actions inspired the abolition movement in Jamaica and beyond. Today, Sam Sharpe is celebrated as a national hero and a symbol of resistance against slavery and injustice.
