Salter's phenomenon
Salter's phenomenon occurs in children’s bones, specifically at the growth plate in the leg, when one side of the bone’s growth plate is damaged or irregular. Normally, both sides grow evenly, but if one side grows faster than the other, the bone can bend or curve. This is often seen after injury or treatment of nearby conditions, leading to a deformity known as “crossing growth plates.” Recognizing and managing Salter’s phenomenon is important to prevent uneven growth and deformities, ensuring proper limb development as the child grows.
