Salter osteotomy

Salter osteotomy is a surgical procedure used to treat hip problems in children, particularly when the hip socket is shallow or the ball of the thighbone doesn’t sit properly in the socket. The surgeon cuts and repositions part of the pelvis to better cover and support the ball. This helps improve hip stability and function, reducing pain and preventing future joint issues. The bone is then fixed in place to heal correctly. The procedure typically aids in normal hip development and can delay or prevent early arthritis.
