Salonika, now called Thessaloniki, is Greece’s second-largest city, located in the northern part of the country near the Aegean Sea. Historically, it has been a vital cultural and commercial hub due to its strategic position along trade routes. It has a rich history from ancient times, through the Byzantine and Ottoman periods, and into modern Greece.
