Salma Khadra Jayyusi

Salma Khadra Jayyusi was a distinguished Palestinian poet, scholar, and translator born in 1925. She dedicated her life to promoting Arab literature and culture, translating Arabic poetry into English and vice versa, making it accessible worldwide. She founded the "Arab-West Understanding" project and played a key role in anthologizing Arabic poetry, helping to introduce it to a global audience. Her work bridged cultures and fostered mutual appreciation of Middle Eastern literary traditions. Jayyusi’s contributions significantly enriched the appreciation of Arabic literary arts and cultural understanding internationally until her passing in 2023.
