Sally Hayes

Sally Hayes is a fictional character from J.D. Salinger's novel "The Catcher in the Rye." She is a young woman Holden Caulfield, the novel's protagonist, knows and has dated. Sally is portrayed as charming and attractive but also as somewhat superficial and socially conventional. Holden admires her intelligence but ultimately finds her and her lifestyle unfulfilling. Their interactions highlight Holden’s feelings of alienation and his struggle to find genuine connections in a world he perceives as phony.
