Saint Swithun
Saint Swithun was a 9th-century Anglo-Saxon bishop of Winchester, known for his piety and dedication to the church. He is venerated as a saint in both the Catholic and Anglican traditions. According to legend, Swithun was kind to travelers and the poor, and after his death, he was believed to have performed miracles, such as causing rain to fall on a day of his feast—leading to the saying that if it rains on Saint Swithun’s day (July 15), it will rain for 40 days. His relics were eventually moved to Winchester Cathedral, where he remains a patron saint and symbol of intercession.
