Saint Sebastian (Christian Martyr)
Saint Sebastian was a Christian martyr who lived in the 3rd century. He served as a Roman soldier and secretly practiced Christianity, which was forbidden. When his faith was discovered, he was sentenced to death and shot with arrows—an act intended to kill him. Miraculously, he survived this ordeal and later publicly criticized the Emperor’s persecution. Consequently, he was executed by beheading. Saint Sebastian is venerated as a protector against plagues and is often depicted in art tied to themes of resilience and faith in the face of persecution. His life exemplifies steadfastness and courage in standing for one's beliefs.
