Saint Anselm (Anselm of Canterbury)

Saint Anselm of Canterbury was a 11th-century theologian and philosopher known for his work on faith and reason. He argued that God is "that than which nothing greater can be thought," meaning God is the greatest possible being. Anselm believed that the existence of God can be proved through logical reasoning, not just faith. His famous "ontological argument" suggests that questioning God's existence is only meaningful if we already understand the idea of a perfect being. Anselm’s ideas helped shape Christian theology and emphasized reason's role in understanding faith.
