Saint Anselm
Saint Anselm was an 11th-century philosopher and theologian best known for his argument for God's existence known as the "ontological argument." Anselm proposed that if we can conceive of the greatest possible being (God), then God must exist in reality, because existing in reality is greater than existing only in the mind. His reasoning suggests that God's existence is necessary, not contingent. This argument has sparked much debate and further philosophical exploration, influencing many thinkers in theology and philosophy throughout history. Anselm's work emphasizes faith seeking understanding, blending reason with spiritual belief.
