Saigo Takamori
Saigo Takamori (1828–1877) was a prominent Japanese samurai and military leader during the late Edo period and early Meiji era. He played a key role in ending Japan's feudal isolation and helped modernize the country. Recognized for his leadership during the Boshin War, he became a symbol of traditional samurai values. However, he later led the Satsuma Rebellion against the new government, opposing rapid modernization and centralization. Saigo's death marked the last major uprising of his time, and he is remembered as a national hero who embodied loyalty, honor, and resistance to change.
