Saffron Cultivation
Saffron cultivation involves growing the Crocus sativus flower, which produces the prized saffron spice. Farmers plant tiny bulbs called corms in well-drained soil with full sun. When mature in autumn, the purple flowers bloom, and workers carefully harvest the vivid red stigmas—tiny thread-like parts inside the flower—which are hand-picked. These stigmas are then dried to produce saffron. The process requires patience, as each flower yields just a few threads, making saffron one of the most expensive spices. Proper climate, soil, and careful harvesting are essential for high-quality saffron production.
