Safe Third Country Policy

The Safe Third Country Policy is an agreement between countries aimed at managing asylum seekers. It stipulates that if an individual arrives in one country but passes through another designated as “safe,” they must seek asylum in that first safe country instead. This means that if a person travels through a country that is considered safe, they cannot apply for refuge in another country, as it is believed they should have sought protection there. This policy is intended to streamline asylum processes and prevent individuals from "asylum shopping" among multiple countries.
