sacrificial anode systems
Sacrificial anode systems protect metal structures, like ships or underground pipelines, from rust and corrosion. They use a more reactive metal, called a sacrificial anode, that naturally corrodes instead of the protected metal. When connected to the metal piece, the anode attracts corrosive elements, sacrificing itself to prevent damage to the main structure. This process, known as cathodic protection, extends the lifespan of valuable infrastructure by controlling corrosion through a controlled, intentional loss of the anode material.
