Sacred Stone Camp
Sacred Stone Camp is an Indigenous-led protest movement that began in 2016 to oppose the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline, which threatened water sources and sacred Native lands near the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation in North Dakota. Activists and tribes gathered to peacefully demonstrate, raise awareness, and protect their rights and environment. The camp became a symbol of Indigenous resistance, environmental activism, and solidarity, drawing support from across the country and internationally. Although efforts to stop the pipeline faced legal and political challenges, the movement significantly raised awareness of Indigenous issues and environmental concerns related to fossil fuel infrastructure.
