S2

S2 in medical terms refers to the second heart sound, often called "dub." It occurs when the heart's valves, specifically the aortic and pulmonary valves, close after each heartbeat, signaling the end of blood being pumped out of the heart. This sound helps doctors assess how well the heart is functioning. A normal S2 is sharp and split into two parts during deep inspiration. Changes in the timing or quality of S2 can indicate heart problems, such as valve issues or abnormal pressures in the lungs or heart.
