Sénescence

Senescence is the natural process by which cells gradually stop dividing and lose their ability to grow and function properly over time. This process occurs as cells age or experience damage, preventing them from becoming cancerous or malfunctioning but also contributing to aging and tissue decline. Essentially, senescence acts as a protective mechanism against diseases like cancer but can lead to tissue deterioration and age-related health issues when senescent cells accumulate in the body.
