Sénat

The Sénat, or Senate, is the upper chamber of France's Parliament, working alongside the lower chamber, the National Assembly. Its main role is to review, amend, and approve legislation passed by the National Assembly, ensuring thorough scrutiny from a different perspective. Senators are elected by local officials for six-year terms, with half the seats up for election every three years. The Sénat also represents local and regional interests at the national level, contributing to the legislative process and safeguarding regional diversity within the country's governance.
