Rwandan History
Rwanda's history is marked by rich cultural heritage and periods of conflict. It was a colonial territory controlled by Germany and later Belgium, which structured society around ethnicity—primarily Hutu, Tutsi, and Twa. Post-independence, tensions escalated, culminating in the 1994 genocide, where an estimated 800,000-1 million Tutsi and moderate Hutus were killed in a tragic, rapid mass violence. Since then, Rwanda has committed to reconciliation, stability, and economic growth under strong government leadership, transforming into a model of development and ethnic unity.
