Ruth Asawa
Ruth Asawa (1926-2013) was an accomplished Japanese-American artist known for her intricate, hanging wire sculptures that capture organic forms and the beauty of light and shadow. Born in California to immigrant parents, she faced challenges during World War II, including internment. Asawa’s work blends art and craftsmanship, often inspired by nature and geometry. Beyond her sculptures, she was a passionate advocate for arts education, founding the Alvarado School Arts Program in San Francisco. Her legacy lies not only in her contributions to contemporary art but also in her dedication to fostering creativity in future generations.
