Rusalka (siren)
A rusalka, often called a siren in Western traditions, is a mythical water spirit from Slavic folklore. Usually depicted as a beautiful yet sometimes dangerous female entity, she inhabits lakes, rivers, or ponds. Rusalki are known for their enchanting singing and alluring presence, which can attract humans—sometimes leading to benign interactions, but other times causing harm, such as drowning or misfortune. They embody nature’s beauty and mystery, representing both life and peril associated with water, and have been portrayed in stories as both benevolent and malevolent forces.
