Rurik dynasty

The Rurik dynasty was a noble family that founded and ruled over parts of Eastern Europe, including Russia, from the late 9th century. Its legendary founder, Rurik, was a Viking leader who established his rule in Novgorod. The dynasty played a crucial role in the development of Kievan Rus, the first significant East Slavic state. Over centuries, the Rurikids contributed to the political, cultural, and religious growth of Russia. The dynasty lasted until the early 17th century when it ended with the death of the last Rurikid tsar, leading to the Time of Troubles and the rise of the Romanov dynasty.
