Running of the Inca

The Running of the Inca was a relay-style communication system used by the Inca Empire, consisting of a network of runners called "chasquis." These runners transported messages, official documents, and small items across vast distances along specialized paths called Qhapac Ñan. They maintained rapid communication by passing messages quickly from one runner to the next, often covering hundreds of kilometers in a day. This system facilitated efficient governance, military coordination, and cultural cohesion across the expansive empire, which stretched through present-day Peru and neighboring countries.
