Run 2
Run 2 refers to an extended period during which the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN operated to gather data for scientific research, especially in particle physics. Spanning from 2015 to 2018, it followed the first run and involved higher energies and improved detectors, allowing scientists to explore fundamental particles and forces more deeply. The goal was to test existing theories, like the Standard Model, and search for new phenomena, such as unknown particles or evidence of physics beyond current knowledge. Run 2 contributed significantly to our understanding of the universe at its smallest scales.
