Rumbold's Rebellion
Rumbold’s Rebellion, which occurred in 1554 in what is now Zimbabwe, was an uprising against Portuguese colonial authorities. Led by local leaders who sought to defend their land and independence, the rebellion was motivated by resistance to Portuguese efforts to control trade, impose taxes, and influence local governance. The conflict resulted in significant clashes, ultimately leading to Portuguese suppression of the uprising. It highlights early resistance to European colonial expansion in southeastern Africa, emphasizing local efforts to maintain sovereignty amid external pressures.
