RSFSR
RSFSR stands for Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic. It was the largest republic within the Soviet Union, a socialist state that existed from 1922 to 1991. The RSFSR was essentially Russia, and it played a central role in the Soviet system, both politically and economically. In 1991, following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the RSFSR became the independent Russian Federation, which is now known simply as Russia. The RSFSR represented Russia's political and territorial organization during the Soviet era.
