RPO (Run-Pass Option)

The Run-Pass Option (RPO) is a flexible offensive play in football where the quarterback initially looks like they are going to hand the ball off to a running back to run the ball. However, the quarterback can also choose to throw a pass if they see an open receiver or if the defense is focused on stopping the run. This decision is made quickly based on how the defense reacts. RPOs help offenses keep defenders guessing, creating more opportunities for big gains by exploiting defensive overcommitment either on the ground or through the air.
