Royal Observer Corps
The Royal Observer Corps (ROC) was a UK civil defense organization established in 1925, primarily responsible for visual observation of aircraft and nuclear explosions. During World War II and the Cold War, its members monitored air activity, tracked enemy aircraft, and provided crucial information to military command. Located in specialized underground reporting posts, the ROC played a key role in air defence and later in monitoring nuclear tests and fallout. The organization was stood down in 1995, but its efforts contributed significantly to Britain’s national security during critical periods.
