Royal Jester
A Royal Jester was an entertainer employed by medieval monarchs or noble households, primarily to amuse and entertain the court. Unlike modern comedians, jesters used humor, wit, storytelling, singing, and sometimes physical antics to lighten the mood during court events. They often wore colorful, exaggerated costumes and a distinctive cap with bells. Jesters had the unique privilege to speak freely, even making fun of kings and nobles without repercussions, providing both entertainment and social commentary. While their role was primarily for amusement, they also served as a trusted advisor in some cases, using humor to deliver serious messages.
