Royal Indian Navy Revolt
The Royal Indian Navy Revolt of 1946 was a major strike by Indian sailors in Mumbai (then Bombay) against harsh working conditions, poor pay, and racial discrimination by British officers. It began with protests over an incident involving discriminatory treatment and quickly spread to involve thousands of personnel across ships and bases. The uprising challenged British authority in India just before independence, highlighting the growing demand for self-rule. While the rebellion was eventually suppressed, it played a significant role in accelerating the end of British colonial rule and inspired future movements for independence.
