Roshi

A Roshi is a respected teacher in Zen Buddhism, often guiding students on their spiritual journey. Originating in Japan, the term means “old teacher” or “venerable teacher.” Roshi typically has many years of meditation practice and experience, and they oversee teachings, meditation sessions, and community responsibilities. They serve as mentors, helping students deepen their understanding of Zen principles like mindfulness, discipline, and direct experience. While rooted in tradition, a Roshi’s role is to support individual growth and clarity, often embodying the values of humility, compassion, and Zen-centered living.
